We had an excellent tour with our guide Taka. The tour was at a good pace and we felt like we had time to enjoy ourselves. He explained everything to us very well. To be honest the whole tour just felt like we were out exploring the city with a good friend.
Patti_H –
Albert was wonderful.. he took us to little areas we would not have seen otherwise, as well as other common sights. He was knowledgeable about the local Japanese culture and neighborhood and answered our questions about Japan in general. He also provided assistance in showing us how to purchase train tickets.
Tushar_P –
An absolute excellent first day in Tokyo. We saw highlights and got to understand the public transport system.
Taka was our guide who was amazing, kind, knowledgeable and proud to share his Japanese culture. He made our experience amazingly memorable. We couldn’t be more fortunate to have him as a guide.

Claire was an excellent guide and very knowledgeable. This was my first visit to Tokyo and I had asked her to explain how to use the metro system, this made the rest of my trip very easy to plan. Then as I had requested, she took me to the main sites which I would never have been able to do in 4 hours on my own, the tour was on a Sunday and everywhere was very busy but she negotiated our way around brilliantly.

Our tour guide Banah, was a bright, energetic, knowledgable and caring person, who created a itinerary based on our interests and her understanding of the must see in Tokyo. Excellent experience.
William_K –
The best part was our lunch in an Italian seafood and pasta lunch. The guide Mathilde was friendly and informative. However we all thought that her attire was inappropriate to be guiding us around in Tokyo. We were staying at a 5 star luxurious hotel . We did not recognize that it could be our guide waiting in the lobby , as all of the other Japanese guests were beautifully dressed. She wore a T shirt, sort of pajama like bottoms and running shoes. Not very soignee at all for une francaise . Other than that, everything was excellent and met expectations.

Taka was a great guide
Extremely knowledgeable and easy to speak with
I thoroughly enjoyed my day
Tsukiji market is a must see

He was friendly and most helpful.Nothing was too much trouble. Showed us so many things, we would of never see. Showed us how to use the public transport system. A very nice chap.

We thoroughly enjoyed our private tour in Tokyo with our guide Taka. He took us to a variety of sensational sites, including a large shrine park, the Hokusai museum, the Imperial Palace park, and a craft shop. But the highlight of the day was a delicious sushi lunch at a sushi bar. Watching and talking with the sushi chef was a great part of the experience, and the taste of that sushi was amazing. Throughout the day, Taka was so fun and enjoyable as he showed us the different sites and we learned about each other. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide. Wonderful day in Tokyo.

Very interesting tour of Tokyo with super friendly guides. Very informative and saw areas of Tokyo that was not in the guide book. Definitely recommend.

We thoroughly enjoyed our tour with Noah. Noah was experienced, informative and catered the tour to our requirements. The knowledge he had of the sites that we visted was great. Noah was a personable young man the service he provided went way beyond our expectations and was very much appreciated by us. We highly recommend Noah as a personal tour guide.

We loved being submerged into the Japanese culture! Taking the subway and eating authentic teppenaki cuisine. Incredible experience!

We cannot begin to express our full appreciation for our guide, Banah. She is a genuine human being with a passion for sharing knowledge of Tokyo and her perspective from living and working here. She listened to us and tailored our tour with exactly what we wanted and added things that we didn’t even know we wanted.
We had a perfect day!
Thank you!!!

Albert is fantastic! He customized the tour for us, helped orient us to Tokyo’s public transport, explained things to us, and was just generally informative and great. If in return to Tokyo I would hire him for a guide again.
Chris_K –
Our young guide Taka helped plan a great day of sightseeing. We zipped around the city using the subway. Taka was amazing and shared with us his personal connection to Japanese culture.
Marcelle –
The guide was willing to take us where we suggested to go . However I strongly object to the fact that we, the pre- tour paying customers, had to shell out more money for our own public transportation, and, worse, we had to pay for our guide’s lunch. Totally unacceptable, and very different from our experience with Viator in Kyoto. Buyer be aware in Tokyo. Or choose another tour company.
Willington_G –
I’ve gone on many tours in my life and I have to say that this was probably one of the worst tours that I’ve ever been on and a waste of money. My tour guide didn’t speak English or Japanese that well and she was Googling information about the sites that we went to while we were there! If I wanted to Google info about a site, I could do it myself, a good tour guide is support to know that information already.
She also wanted me to pay for her ticket along with my ticket! I understand paying for my own individual ticket but paying for the tour guide’s ticket is not mentioned on the site. She also was texting her friends during the tour. I finally told her that she can go because her services were essentially no longer needed. I do not recommend.
Brooke_L –
Our guide Albert was friendly and helped us get oriented on our first day in Tokyo with a great overview of the city. I’d highly recommend this tour!

Via Viator we organised and paid for a guided 6 hour private walking tour of Tokyo. A few weeks prior to our departure we were asked to provide an itinerary of things we’d like to see and visit during our tour and were also asked to make contact via what’s app with our tour guide Botania. As requested we provided a very modest itinerary and and contacted the guide. We had no reply from Botania to our what’s app message and in retrospect we realise now that her non communication was a definite ‘red flag’ and that we should of cancelled the tour then and there but unfortunately at the time we didn’t think that much of it.
We arranged for Botania meet us at 10am to start the tour from our hotel in Shinjuku. We specifically picked this start time so that we’d be able finish our tour at 4pm, as we felt that Jet lag maybe a factor if it finished any later than that. On the morning of the tour we waited patiently in our hotel lobby for Botania, but there was no sign of her at all. After waiting for an hour we managed to (eventually) contact Viator and informed them of the situation. They said they’d try and get a replacement guide for us and after about 15 mins they called back and said they’d found a guide but could we get to Tokyo station for 12.30pm to meet up with him. As we had no idea where Tokyo station was in relation to our hotel and being unfamiliar with the subway system we, at a cost of £25 took a taxi to the station, our new guide meet up with us at 1pm. The guide was a fairly affable young Lebanese man who told us he had only lived in Tokyo for a few years and spoke absolutely no Japanese at all. We soon became aware that his knowledge of Tokyo was very basic and what he did know seemed to be derived from a bog standard tourist guide book. He was certainly no ‘expert’. as an example, one classic line from him was – ” This building was built in 1866, or…….was it 1688, well anyway it was built a long time ago”. During the now vastly behind schedule walking tour we were rushed quickly around only some of our itinerary places and regularly press ganged into visiting a few of the guides ‘favoured sites’ which were definitly not on our list. Because of these un scheduled detours we ended up missing out on a few of the places that were actually listed in our itinerary. One of the things we specifically requested was to visit was a well known market close to a Buddhist temple where my wife was hoping to spend time perusing the market stalls and hopefully buying some gifts for the family. Unfortunately, as it was one of the very last places we visited and as it was late in the day, most of the stalls had closed up.We believe that if the guide had a better knowledge of Tokyo and of our itinerary he would have factored that in and would’ve taken us there a lot earlier than he did.
As we only had three days to in Tokyo we felt that by taking this mess of a tour we had completely wasted one of our precious days in this lovely city, not to mention the waste of our money. If this is the level of service and quality of guide Viator offer I would think very carefully about booking any future trips with them.To date Viator has not offered us any form of apology or rebate/refund.
P.s To add a big fat cherry on the top, later on the day of the tour Botania did at 2pm contact us (via what’s app would you believe) to inform us that the reason she was a ‘no show’ that morning was that she’d had some ‘technical difficulties’ . Apparently she’d forgotten to charge her phone the night before,. Then, offering no apology what’s so ever for ruining our day she had the bare faced cheek to ask if we still wanted to go ahead with the tour with her – then seemed quite annoyed and put out that we declined her offer and had accepted the services of another guide – You just couldn’t make it up???
