First, the good: Tour is very interesting. The stories are hard to hear, but provide a valuable insight into a life scarcely imaginable to most who can afford to travel. You get to see a part of Nairobi that tourists rarely visit. The ‘guards’ who assisted the tour were also very helpful in keeping me from being run over by motos on several occasions (crossing roads downtown is a whole life skill here).
The bad: Ticket states it includes lunch. We went to a local restaurant and the food was good! No stomach issues either. But at the end of the meal, it became clear that I was expected to pay for not only myself, but the other 6 individuals running the tour (I was the only tourist attending that day). Being a local place, full meals for 7 weren’t too expensive, but it was never discussed and the way it went down felt very weird and uncomfortable. It was a disappointing way to end an otherwise decent tour.

    Nairobo old to new

Nai Nami was an eye opening and extremely valuable experience. Having been brought up in Nairobi, it was interesting to listen to the guides’ stories – who were a similar age to me – and reflect on the extreme diversity and experiences that occur in this city and country. I felt completely safe through out the tour as the guides are able to use their knowledge of the streets to accompany visitors through a Nairobi less explored by tourists. The socially orientated objective of the project is to raise awareness of widespread realities with the hope of supporting children and keeping them off the streets. Would highly recommend this to anybody – from Nairobi and beyond.

This tour is unique, and one that I’m happy I took. Seeing Nairobi’s street life thru the lens of the young men who lived and survived it, was truly amazing.

Great tour. Best suited for those over 15 years able to walk on uneven surfaces. The tour guides were very helpful and informative. We felt well looked after.

I am so glad that I found this tour and booked. It was an amazing experience. The tour guides are down to earth. I felt as though they were friends that I had known for years. They were knowledgeable and answered my millions of questions as we walked along our tour. They helped us as we purchased items in the shopping market and made sure that we didn’t pay more than the items were worth. Also, we got lost meeting them at the start of the tour and they didn’t mind at all. They told us to stay where we were and they came to us. I would definitely recommend this tour and I would do it again.

Wonderful 3 hrs walking downtown with Donga listening to his life story and meeting some lovely characters along the way. Lots of photo opportunities to accompany the rest of my holiday in kenya. The tour ended with some great local food. Great experience. A must do tour if you have the time in Nairobi. Thanks Donga and Nai Nami.

The best thing I have ever done! Loved this guys… do not miss it! Amazing experience!
We had a tour in the streets of Nairobi, we felt safe all the time and we manage to see things that we couldn’t have seen otherwise. Heartbreaking stories, but at the end the most important is that these guys teach you that with the power of will, you can achieve everything and you can escape even from your worst nightmares. There is always a new day, there is light inside people and we can contribute, by doing small or bigger things for each other, in making the world better. And better. And better.

This was a perfect tour – so insightful, and the guides were really nice, cool guys. They also shared personal stories, which were moving. I learned a lot and had a good time. Big recommendation!! 👍

I found the tour a great learning for me to experience difference perspectives of Nairobi. I found the personal stories inspiring and the experience informative. Thanks to the guides (Donga and Priest), I felt confident walking around the busy area if the town without feeling lost. Consider having some Kenyan shilling to for the food at the end of the tour – some local food at a hidden gem. 🙂

This was a such an amazing experience in Nairobi! Our tour guide King is a nice, funny, knowledgable person with unfortunate personal experience of growing up on the street. We got to see parts of town we would never see as tourists, heard amazing stories, we felt safe 100% all the time, met ppl on the street – everyone knew out guide. We finished the tour with local lunch (delicious!), which was less than 10$ for the 3 of us. Trust me, book this tour and experience Nairobi. Nai Nami guides are awesome!

A great tour, very interesting, and well worth it. My guide made a great effort to keep me safe throughout the day. Lunch was really good too!

So, my family arrived late and needed to reschedule this booking. I contacted the tour operator and he was very flexible at giving us another date. We chatted several times about making it fit in our schedule and at no fault of the company, it just didn’t work out. I appreciated his effort to accommodate us. As a travel agent, lots of tour companies wouldn’t even try. They would take the money and move on. I, ultimately, let the company keep the money for their flexibility. I recommend this company based on their business model and values.

We were a group of friends traveling through Kenya. This was by far the most authentic experience that we had.
A special thanks to Holy, Taifun, Quick and theirs bros <3

Wonderful walking tour! Felt very safe and had a great experience seeing Nairobi – made us feel much more confident and we learnt so much about the lives of street children and some useful Swahili words to communicate with the locals who all seemed very happy that we were visiting Kenya. Tsunami and Typhoon were great guides!

Meeting people on the street and talking to them. Also eating like the locals. The guide was excellent.

A friend and I went on this tour. We both were very pleased with the tour! And would recommend it to others, its very interesting to hear their stories and how they grew up. They provide enough guides so you can hear eveything.
We are both girls and we felt safe every minute of the tour.

What an amazing experience, I was hesitant at first but was so insightful and felt completely safe, the people in nairobi are so friendly! Kings story was heartbreaking but the work he is doing is great, we definitely had the best tour guide. Make sure you have water and walking shoes, you will learn so much and see a side that you normally wouldn’t, a great incentive! Good luck to king and all those involved!!
