The event was very tightly timed. The bus ride was good. The tour guide Céline was fantastic and told a comprehensive and interesting story. I would have liked to have seen the gardens in more detail. We were there on a Saturday. The crowds were huge and it was annoying to keep an eye out for pickpockets. Still recommended for a first impression.

I was hesitant to do a guided tour but let me tell you it’s worth it! First, If it’s your first time visiting, you need a guide (our was Cecile, amazing) to explain the history and guide you through, this is a huge property and there are many things to explore. This experience covers the most important parts of chateau Versailles. Second, the transport is hassle free. Yes, you can take the train, metro, walk (back and forth) but it’s a pain especially when returning back. Spend the extra money you won’t regret it. One last thing, the 5 hour tour is including transportation of 30-40min each way.

We enjoyed this tour. While there may be cheaper alternatives of getting to the palace and seeing it for yourself, it was worthwhile to be able to skip the long queue and head directly into the palace to immediately begin the tour. It is such a massive place and having someone tell you about the history and the background made it much more enjoyable and educational. Going through on your own would be too overwhelming especially when trying to navigate through the massive crowds that were there in November. If this is how crowded it is during “low season”, I can’t imagine what it is like during the summer.
