The scenery and nature along the “shipwreck coast” were stunning. Unfortunately, our time at these one-of-a-kind locations was extremely limited. The bus stops almost every hour for bathroom breaks, limiting the time available to visit other key attractions along the Great Ocean Road. Furthermore, time was wasted at places like a chocolate factory and a frankly pathetic waterfall (I forget the name because it was so unremarkable). I understand the difficulty in fitting in a full experience of the Great Ocean Road in one day, but quite possibly every wrong choice was made in terms of itinerary selection. In all, we spent about 1.5 hours out of the 14 hour day along the Shipwreck Coast, only stopping at two out of the 6-8 visit-worthy locations I identified on a map at the visitor’s center at the Twelve Apostles.
Additionally, the bus itself was miserable to ride in. The seats were far too narrow and the suspension was extremely poor. The bus rocked and shook back and forth, making the ride extremely uncomfortable. The tour guide played horrible music far too loudly the entire time, only pausing the music to tell us over and over again about the remaining bathroom breaks available to us on the trip.
Because seating is by party size (largest first), I was unable to have a window seat, while a family of 5 each had the opportunity to enjoy the amazing views along the road. While they easily could have sat together and alternated to equitably share the opportunity, they chose not to. This isn’t explicitly the tour’s or operator’s fault, but guides should make an effort to ensure that at least one member of every party has a window seat.
Finally, I got food poisoning from this trip. I don’t know which establishment from this tour gave it to me, but I suspect it was the scallop pie at Apollo Bay Bakery that was highly recommended by the guide. Regardless, I woke up the following morning with stabbing pains and spent the next four days crouched in pain over the toilet.
In summary, the Great Ocean Road is a must see destination if you are in Melbourne for four or more days, which is why I gave this two stars instead of one. You are best served picking a different tour (either way don’t get a scallop pie – it was genuinely one of the foulest things I have ever eaten). Having experienced this tour and the Great Ocean Road, I would suggest a two day trip.

I liked this tour. It was enough time to watch everything, enough stops: we were able to drink coffee, eat. I felt comfortable during this tour and would recommend it to my friends

Most of the time is spent on the bus, but the sites were worth the trip. I just wish more time was given for lunch which was too rushed.

This was really a great tour experience. One of the best in Australia. Specially the tour guide Nathan who is very professional and has made this trip even more interesting by sharing his knowledge about the places on the way to 12 apostles and cracking funny jokes in between. Thanks for making it a memorable trip 👍👍

It was a very nice trip, I have arranged it last minute and me and my boyfriend enjoined it a lot. The buses do not have toilets so there were lot of stops for bathroom which was okish for us! The trip was 13-h so might be a bit tiring but for sure worth it. The ice cream and chocolate place was amazing too, the Lorne town was worth it a lot and we managed to get a sunny day plus public holiday so the places were busy for winter standards.
