We have had a lot of fun. The camp is clean and well managed. The staff is very polite and efficient.
The cruises on the river and the walks in the jungle are interesting and adventurous.
The camp is very peaceful and relaxing in such a way that I can’t tell. Must try.

My friend and I decided to do this tour whilst visiting Sabah in August and we were really unsure what to expect. This trip turned out to be the absolute highlight of our whole trip to Malaysia.
We were collected at Sandakan (the tour organisers are incredibly flexible with pick up points) and it was a 2 hour journey to the Kinabatangan River. The journey to get there is long and winding and you gradually move further and further away from civilisation (which is exactly what we wanted!). We finally reached a river where we disembarked and proceeded by boat to the camp. I don’t want to give too much away about the itinerary because a lot of the enjoyment of these kind of trips come from the novelty, but the next two and a half days consisted of guided river excursions and jungle walks, along with free time to relax in the beautiful jungle lodge (make sure you bring a book to read, you will have plenty of free time during the day and the evenings).
I will say that our hosts were incredible. The lodge is owned by local people and was set up as a base for conservation and reforesting efforts along the Kinabatangan. The food is fantastic (although simple) and is the local cuisine. There were unlimited teas and coffees and water.
Our guide Joey was also fantastic. I cannot guarantee that there will be animals (that’s up to the animals!) but if the animals are there, you will 100% spot them thanks to Joey’s amazing eyes and awareness. He is very knowledgeable about the forest plants and animals; and incredibly passionate about the conversation work undertaken by the Camp. On our river cruise we spotted wild orangutans (including a mother and baby), proboscis monkeys, macaques, crocodiles, monitor lizards, kingfisher, eagles, hornbills, storks and many others. Previous groups have seen pygmy elephants and gibbons.
I should point out that accommodation is basic: the beds are simple and there is no air conditioning. The lodge is within a forest clearing, beside the river so bugs are plentiful (we were both bitten relentlessly!). There is no wifi or phone signal. For many, this will add to the experience… but if you prefer luxury this may not be the tour for you. The tour is organised to be sustainable and minimise the impact on the rainforest ecology- hence the spartan accommodation.
Overall, I came away from the tour feeling relaxed and refreshed; and very lucky to have seen such exotic creatures and plants in a natural, unspoilt habitat. 100% recommend!

Everything about this trip was professional from start to finish. Our guide Joey was both informative and a great host and his knowledge of flora and fauna aswell as wildlife spotting was great. The food is traditional and there is plenty to eat at each sitting. We were lucky enough to see plenty of wildlife including a wild organautan with an infant within one hour of arriving at camp. Further to this we also saw a dominant male organautan who nested on the edge of the camp on our second night. We also saw 4 of the Borneo big 5, countless birds including kingfishers, kites, eagles and night herons to name but a few. Wild cats were also seen on the river bank on the night cruise aswell as, butterflies and reptiles during the day hike. It’s a real experience and the boat tours are a great way to see wildlife without disturbing them offering the opportunity to observe natural behaviour. Would highly recommend!

it was my most memorable experience in Borneo. The guide Jai is knowledgeable and help us find a lot wild animals . the accomodation is basic, but room is clean and tidy. Food is good there and the staff are very friendly. The driver Bob is a good talker and introduce me a lot about Borneo and sandakan.

We loved our 2 night 3 day stay. A true jungle experience. We loved the simple but clean and tidy rooms, on the river in the heart of the jungle. Jai was a fantastic guide and host, showing us so many jungle creatures we have never seen before. I recommend this spot if you want to have a authentic jungle experience. Thank you Jai and the team
