Pick up from our Hotel (Berjaya resort) was spot on and communication about timings ect all on point.
A little waiting at the beach on arrival for other guests who clearly failed to follow simple instructions, we finally got on our boat about 30 mins late. The weather was a little overcast with glimmers of sunshine to start, but this deteriorated as the trip went on finishing in torrential rain, that’s a jungle environment for you.
However, the important thing is the trip itself! Well maintained boat and quality driver take you to the fish farm for a very interesting look at the local fish species including Archers, Giant Trevalie, puffer fish, leopard shark and a few others with the chance to carefully hand feed if you wish. Loved it as a fisherman!
Next we moved onto the eagle and kite feeding. So surprised how quickly these stunning birds appeared from nowhere, we must have had 50 plus birds swooping down for the chicken and fish scraps thrown to them. Our captain then took us very slowly through the mangroves for more wildlife spotting. A troop of 100 plus monkeys sitting in the trees a few feet away going about there daily business and a great photo opportunity especially towards the end when we were lucky to spot a Sea Otter sitting on the rocks 20 feet away.
After gliding through the crocodile cave (name of the cave, no crocs present!) we ended up at the bat caves. Here you get off the boat and if you wish pay RM2 per person (£0.40p in our money!) to go into the caves with a supplies torch to see the hundreds of bats hanging from the cave roof. Following this, we headed back in the boat to the fish farm for lunch in poring rain, be prepared to get wet, take a jacket or put up with it, jungles generate a lot of rain.
Lunch to our pleasant surprise was tasty. My wife and a I who do not partake in fish abroad (personal choice, we are not fish lovers apart from battered Cod and chips) enjoyed a local soups, followed by spicy chicken, rice and popadom with a refreshing soft drink included in the trip price.
After lunch, life jackets on for the high speed return trip along the coast and a stop for photos in front of the Kilim Geoforest Park sign, just after which we got lucky with a pair of dolphins feeding in front of us. 4 hours from the start, we where back on the beach drenched from the rain having thoroughly enjoyed the trip. Highly recommended to all and at £70 for a couple which included pick up/drop off from resort, the trip itself and lunch, you can’t go wrong.

Great private tour. Hotel pick-up was seamless, even though I booked the day off. Tour itself is amazing, and is timed perfectly for sunset colors. Would recommend.

The boat ride, whether it was slow or fast, was good … the guide was good and experienced .. but we didn’t get close to the eagles to have a good photo … also I wonder why (for lunch) the price for the lobster on the fish farm was more expensive than in a restaurant in Cenang…

Dramatic scenery and exciting ride. Taking journey with Abu was excellent with loads of information. We would have liked more expert information on the boat trip itself.

The tour is nice however we ended up in a full day tour rather than half day. There was beach swimming that is not mentioned, and our other plans had to change as the whole tour took around 8 hours. The guide was good otherwise.

A well organised and informative 1/2 day in a beautiful part of Langkawi. A very knowledgeable guide who had a great passion for this environment.

  7. James_B

The “half day” is really only 2.5 hours and only about half of that had anything to do with the mangroves and the wildlife they mention. It’s not worth the time or money.

    The guides were wonderful.
They are knowledgeable and promote conservative rules actively.
Though there were many tourists, the tour were well-paced and organized.
