Welcome to Hokujo, a charming mountain town located in the Nagano prefecture of Japan. This hidden gem offers breathtaking natural scenery, traditional Japanese culture, and exciting outdoor activities. In this travel blog, I will share my experience exploring Hokujo and some of its highlights.

My journey to Hokujo began with a scenic train ride from Tokyo to Nagano, followed by a short bus ride to the town. As soon as I arrived, I was struck by the stunning views of the Northern Alps, which rise majestically in the background. I couldn’t wait to explore this charming town.

One of the first places I visited was the Hakuba Ski Resort, which is one of the most popular ski destinations in Japan. It offers a wide range of skiing and snowboarding activities, and the powder snow is perfect for both beginners and experienced skiers. Even if you’re not into skiing, you can still enjoy the stunning views from the resort and take part in other winter activities like snowshoeing or snowmobiling.

Next, I visited the Oideya Sake Brewery, which is located in the heart of Hokujo. Here, I had the opportunity to learn about the traditional process of sake-making and sample some of the delicious varieties of sake. The staff was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, and I learned a lot about the history and culture of sake.

Another highlight of my trip was visiting the Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park. The park is home to a large population of Japanese macaques, who live in the hot springs surrounded by snow-covered forests. It was an incredible sight to see the monkeys relaxing in the hot springs, and I felt privileged to be able to observe them in their natural habitat.

Finally, I visited the Shugakuin Imperial Villa, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The villa is located in the middle of a beautiful forest, and the garden is divided into three different sections, each with its own unique charm. It was a peaceful and serene place to spend an afternoon, and I enjoyed learning about the history of the villa and the Imperial family.

Overall, my trip to Hokujo was an unforgettable experience. The town offers a perfect mix of traditional Japanese culture, stunning natural scenery, and exciting outdoor activities. If you’re looking for a unique and unforgettable travel destination, I highly recommend visiting Hokujo in Japan.
