What To Expect Pick an Osaka departure point that works for you, choosing a morning departure location from among Kyoto Station, Umeda’s Nishi-Umeda Hearton Hotel, Nippombashi, or the JR Namba “OCAT.” Begin your first Kyoto visit by heading to the Fushimi Inari Taisha shrine. Wander through this religious site’s collection of more than 1,000 brilliant-red “torii” gates and learn about its connection to the Japanese deities of agriculture, business, traffic safety, and a bountiful harvest. Continue to Kyoto’s Kiyomizu-dera temple. You’ll have one hour to enjoy the amazing city views from the temple’s viewing platform, and to learn about the temple’s construction with 139 pillars and not a single nail. Following your Kiyomizu-dera visit, head to Shijo-karasuma to enjoy an optional deluxe or standard Japanese style lunch. After your lunch break, head to Kinkaku-ji temple. Often referred to as “The Temple of the Golden Pavilion,” this elegant complex hosts a collection of peaceful gardens and traditional Japanese-style architecture. At the end of your visit you’ll be dropped off back in Osaka at Namba OCAT, Nippombashi, or Hearton Hotel Nishi-Umeda.
Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine Upon arrival at your first stop around 10:00am, the Fushimi Inari Taisha shrine, you will tour for about an hour. This area becomes most attractive around early April and late November when the cherry blossoms bloom and the colors of the fall seasons usually peak. It is a pleasantly cool 100 meter long walkway that begins from the side of the world heritage Tenryuji Temple. You’ll spend time here from 03:30 pm 04:50 pm, and then head back to Kyoto Station or Osaka.

The trip was a good concept–convenient pickup from my Osaka hotel. Nice air-conditioned bus ride. Haru was very friendly and kind and kept the group in line. It would have been a much better experience if the weather was not so hot. At times it was unbearable and I had a bout of dehydration and had to sit out one of the temples. Do take the trip but maybe when the weather is cooler. But then it may be more crowded.

Beautiful.. well organized… Definitely recommend. Comfortable bus… Delicious food… And breathtaking views.

This trip was good to see the highlights. Unfortunately I felt it was quiet rushed in some parts. The only disadvantage of a bus tour is that there are always people who will be late for the bus and therefore I feel the next stop was cut short due to this. We were dropped at a bus stop (cafe) and told we had 50mins to walk around. The guide was talking about the bridge which we should cross to see and then the bamboo forest.. everyone went different ways are she was not with us during this time. My son and I walked over the bridge and another bridge only to discover the bamboo forest was where they had dropped us. I only found this out due to asking the people, so walking back to the original drop off point I only had 20 minutes left, which was not enough time to see the bamboo forest….extremely disappointing. .

Our guide Maria was very courteous, informative, and supportive. The program we chose allowed my family to experience the major sites and culture of Kyoto.

Chose this full day tour to Kyoto instead of 50-50 with Nara Deer Park as previously, I had already tried the 50-50 tour. Kyoto full day tour is worth going as it will cover most of the must-see places but the neg part is a lot of walking/stairs! We find it a little tedious especially in this hot summer weather. So this is definitely not recommended for old folks.

  6. Vellie_D

The selection of famous landmarks were great! However the scorching heat affected our attention span. I would love to go back & bring my whole family next time I visit Japan ff these itineraries.
The tour guide was attentive to our needs!

its a good way to see and experience Tokyo!!! Its a good way to exercise!!! Very efficient to travel!!!

  8. ChooLim_Y

The day tour was as advertised and those who sign up need to be aware that there’s a lot of walking involved, much of it on slopes as shrines and temples are located on hillsides. The heat wave in Kyoto during our visit in mid-Sep (also Osaka and Tokyo) marred our trip, despite the efforts of our guide, Rika, a native of Kyoto, to cheer us on. She was very helpful and responsive to our queries. Those who opt to have lunch included can expect an almost vegetarian meal consisting mainly of tofu. It’s not bad but you only get a small sliver of dried beef and a cooked prawn. There are a number of restaurants available at the lunch area that provide better but more expensive alternatives.

  9. Leland_C

The tour was wonderful, good pace for those who want to get the most out of their travels. Beautiful views full of wonderful sights and experiences. Full experience included lunch and ticket costs which was very helpful.
I wanted to send my appreciation and thanks to Hama for being such a great tour guide. My friends and I enjoyed her guided tour so much and we were amazed at how helpful she was to our entire group that day 🙂!
She made our visit so wonderful and I wanted to send her a special thanks.

  11. ALI_M

Had a great time on this very convenient and well-organized tour. Maria is an excellent tour guide. Highly recommend.

  12. Lena_L

The guide was very nice and kind but I felt like compared to other trips we had with viator, there was a lot less explanation of sites, history, culture etc. It was kind of disappointing but overall yes we got to see a lot of places in 1 day. It’s worthwhile to do the trip.

  13. hee_c

It was a nice tour overall. Ms Yoon 윤유미 was very helpful and made sure we had a wonderful time. If you speak Korean, you can ask for her

  14. Justin_Y

This was a really good tour for those who are travelling on a cruise ship or staying in Osaka. The day was long (tour did not end until almost 7pm), partly because of bad traffic. However, the sites were well worth it, and it was a great way of seeing Kyoto’s highlights in one day. We enjoyed it very much.
The deluxe lunch was excellent and well worth it, although it would’ve been nice to know what we were eating! We had the sense we were eating a truly authentic and gourmet Japanese meal.
Note that it took about 20-25 min by taxi to get from the cruise terminal to the meeting spot at Namba station. Highly recommend those who are on a cruise make sure they are off the boat promptly at 8am and get the first available taxi.

Sights were interesting. However, our guide’s English was minimal so, the history, descriptions and instructions were insufficient.

  16. Hardy_A

Haru, our guide was beyond amazing. She was very friendly and helpful and always smiling. Her jokes were hilarious and even told us where to go/stand to take great photos.

  17. Carl_d

The weather wasn’t co-operating for our trip but that didn’t dampen our spirits. Our guide was very nice and, although not 100% fluent in English, he did a good job communicating with us (and with the Thai, Korean, Chinese, German, Japanese and Amercian tourists who were also on the tour). Our only complaint was the large crowds at all venues: these places are beautiful and rich with history so it’s not surprising they attract both domestic and foreign tourists. We were just hoping the bad weather would scare some people away 🙂

  18. Laura_E

This was an excellent trip from start to finish. My guide Alice was super knowledgeable and made the trip fun with her humor. I would definitely recommend anyone to check this out if they’re interested!

  19. Joy_T

I have been to all 4 of these places before but this time it was so crowded. The yen is weak so everyone is travelling to Japan. Just for your info I went to Kinkaku-ji Temple (Golden Pavilion) and when me and my friends tried to go back the way we entered back to the bus the security guard wouldn’t let us go he said for us to go around. I told him our bus is already going to leave but he didn’t care. When he turned his back I just ran to the bus to let our tour guide that my 4 friends had to go around. I was afraid our bus would leave without us but our tour guide waited for my friends. We had a great tour guide.

Efficient trip, good guide, good transportation. Lunch was also very good. Overall good value, but limited time in each place due to 4 places in one tour, which is understandable
