My husband and I were encouraged by our travel agent to check out Viator. We are so thankful for your tour.
We were picked up from our ship in Safaga driven to Luxor where we had a very knowledgeable and fun guide named Hoda who went out of her way to make sure we were taken to good restaurants and all our information for our flight to Cairo.
In Cairo we had a driver named Mohammed Fox. He drove us on our tour of Cairo and Giza. Then he drove us for 6 more hours back to our ship in Safaga. He made sure every detail in taking care of our group was done well. (He also paid for our bathroom fees when we didn’t have the right change.). Great guy.
We stayed at a five star hotel in Luxor that provided us with breakfasts to go since we had to leave at 3:45 for the airport.
We will look for other trips Viator provides on the rest of our cruise.

OK, this review is long and has the good, the bad and the ugly about this trip:
    The Good:
We saw many amazing sights both days. In Luxor our guide Haitham was very informative and guided us through the areas expertly. My wife has knee problems and is also a shutterbug, and he was able to adjust the pace to us because we were not in a big group.
In Cairo, we got to the pyramids VERY early. Although this meant no pictures on camels at the pyramids (a bummer) it DID mean we had the entire site almost to ourselves and we could take tons of amazing pictures. It also meant we got there at a time we weren’t mobbed by tons of crazy vendors.
Both tour guides and our drivers were friendly and courteous at all times
If this had been the whole thing it would be a 5 star tour.
    The Bad:
Both of our guides clearly had arrangements with local vendors and we were steered into several shops to buy things, where the guides seemed more like salesmen for the vendors than guides working for us – this kind of behavior and side deals is very off-putting. If the guides hadn’t been so nice otherwise we would have graded lower.
The “5 star” hotel in Cairo likely was a 5 star hotel at one time … I would estimate about 1975. The resort was aged and showing its age, not even up to the quality of a low level Marriott hotel. And we asked for a wake up call that never arrived.
We flew out of Luxor at 10 pm, arrived in Cairo at 11:30 and didn’t get situated in our hotel until 1 am … and then had a 5:30 am breakfast to get up and start touring. Touring Cairo on 4 hours of poor sleep was interesting.
    The Ugly:
The transportation arrangements were VERY ugly. Pickup at the port was a late arrival and very disorganized, despite our name being on the list.
Transportation at Cairo airport was similarly very hectic – our driver was late and nobody seemed to have any idea what was going on.
Slightly better transportation when we flew out of Cairo, but then our driver (Hassan) left us at the main gate of the port instead of driving us into our cruise ship, leaving us with a 1 mile walk (with my exhausted wife on a bad knee) back to the ship. We expected a smoother and more streamlined operation, and it really put a damper on the trip.
In conclusion, we got to see everything we wanted to see, in a small group with very informative guides which is why we gave 3 stars. But the peripheral problems with stopping at vendors, poor hotel choice/lack of sleep and issues connecting us with transportation means we couldn’t give a higher rating.

The drivers and your guide are excellent and very knowledgeable, respectful and good mannered. Assignment of vehicle was not organized well and caused more than 1 hour delay. Hotel is not 5 star, probably only 2-3 star. Airport transfer is very good but our last lunch was McDonalds instead of Schwarma as we were told otherwise everything was really good.

The tour itinerary part of the trip is fabulous and you experience a lot of the highlights in Egypt. We had exceptional tour guides who are very knowledgeable and interesting. We had only 30 minutes for our dinner at Luxor, but traffic did play a part in the timing of some events. Our group of six had major concerns with the van driver in Cairo. . We felt our lives were in danger as he drove up to
120 km in very heavy traffic, honking his horn and tailgating at a very dangerous close distance. At times he was on the phone while driving at high speeds. We were also disappointed with the hotel in Cairo with rooms not clean, brown water coming out of faucets so could not shower and one couple was taken to a room already occupied. They were taken to two rooms where the key didn’t work. Also, we did not arrive at the hotel until 1:30 am and told to be at breakfast no later than 6 a.m. This is not enough rest time after a full day of touring. We have used Viator numerous times and always extremely satisfied with the tours. We feel like this was serious enough to be brought to your attention.
