Excellent experience, Dev was so kind and resourceful. It was expensive for the food value we’ve tasted, but it was enjoyable experience.

Gilbert? Our guide was terrific. He went above and beyond to make my family happy. We had a day filled with food, culture and history! We thoroughly loved it.

Dev is a great guide with so much knowledge about Cape Town. He took us to a variety of places where we got to see life for the residents of Cape Town. The food was a bonus.

    Hello,
So my wife and I have used Viator for multiple trips including Vietnam, Charleston, SC, New York and Italy. We love the ease of booking day-trips on the app. For every city we visit we love to do a food tour so we have become accustom to the routine of meeting our guide, discussing some history of the area and then going around to different locations. Well for this tour we were dropped off in front of City Hall in Cape town. There was no one with any kind of representation (name tag, tour guide shirt, sign, etc) in the area. We asked to local security guard who directed us inside the building but no one had any idea of a tour. As we walked outside the security guard said to a guy that we are looking for a tour guide and he said that was him (I forget his name). He didn’t check out tickets, didn’t have any name tag, jacket, t-shirt or sign that said he was a tour guide. I was a little suspicious at this point but decided to continue as to not be rude. He took us to a few food markets in the local area which were “ok” at best. The first place he bough us some samosas, which were cold, and some donut looking pastry which was pretty good. We moved on to a few different places and we go to try a Gatsby which tasted pretty good. We then moved onto a different area where all the taxis would queue for the day. This area had little huts/stand up shops where vendors sold food. We have some food here but I was definitely suspicious on how clean everything was. It really didn’t look like there was running water in each of these vendor stores. After this we moved on through the train station to get some other snacks, slightly getting lost on the way. He was trying to find a place to get rooibos tea. We stopped at a local supermarket, got something sweat to eat then started to walk to Long street to find his favorite place for rooibos tea which we eventually found. Then it was on to walk Bo-Kaap and the conclusion of the trip. Two nights later I woke up profusely vomiting with diarrhea. I’m pretty sure the food at the taxi station area gave it to me. Nothing that some anti-biotics, immodium, zofran and fluid can’t help. It only put me down for a day but still not the best experience. The value for the money was not adequate. I would have rather gone through our hotel to find the best food tour.

Guide, food, history lesson, and ambiance well worth your time! Would definitely recommend this experience.

This was by far the worst Viator tour ever. We generally book food tours in every city we visit and have a great time. In this instance it was the opposite. Our guide was late (no apology) and then just wandered around taking us to a few terrible greasy spoons. No plan no places to sit and no information. We normally go to food shops and meet the owners, learn about their foods and have tastings. In this case the food was shoved at us with no information. It was all very cheap and poor quality food. Our guide ate more than half of every dish he brought us. He didn’t offer us any water so we had to buy it ourselves. We begged off early we were so disgusted.

With an excellent variety of foods to taste, plus Bulelani’s knowledge of the local area and history, this was one of our favorite tours!

A complete waste of money and a rip off. Don’t bother booking this tour!
For the expense, we tried 6 VERY cheap dishes (there are meant to be 10) and only 2 places. The guide lost enthusiasm half way through and couldn’t even remember historical event dates along with his garbled commentary. A real waste of time and money, and I’m disappointed that Viator has not bothered to issue at least a partial refund I requested for the food we didn’t even eat! Disgusting customer service.

Gilbert was such a gem on my trip to South Africa! His historical references as well as food choices have my head still spinning. I have never been on a more informative food tour leaving full mind body and soul! Thank you Gilbert for our wonderful experience.

Great afternoon walking the streets of Cape Town. Tried delicious foods and learned about the history of the area. Thanks for a wonderful afternoon!

Bhirdev was very personable and easy to talk to. We learned so much about South Africa on our first day here. He took us to a few different local food stops that we really enjoyed. It was a great introduction to the city of Cape Town and the country of South Africa.

Parnita was a great guide. There wasn’t a single tasting that we didn’t like. Bring your appetite because there was a lot of great local Malay food.

An intimate walk through Cape Town while enjoying the best local food in the area. Bhirdev was a very knowledgeable and hospitable guide. My husband and I have been on food tours before but it was nothing compared to this. You eat great food while learning the real history of Cape Town. You don’t want to miss this experience.

This was an amazing way to start out our honeymoon trip. We ate at local restaurants, and walked around downtown with Bhirdev who provided us with a lot of information on culture and the food. It was amazing and I’m so glad we booked this. The food was delicious and we were so stuffed!

A great day out. Gilbert uses food tastings as a vehicle to show off different areas and cultures that make up his city. We definitely went to places in the city we would not have found on our own and enjoyed some great flavours.

Guide was nice guy- food tour is a joke – we were taken to a spar store for a milky drink to share between us in a corner seating area- we were offered one plate of African food to share in a local cafe – then went to a fish n chip shop to share one container of mostly chips – then a street shop for 2 small simosas and finished with ice cream in an arcade – our walk was mainly around the city hall area of Capetown which was not very interesting or pretty- our guide was polite and drove us back to our hotel – this was not a food tour to us as we thought it was a joke-we have used company for tours in the past and we’re pleased with them – this costs €160 and consisted of very poor food and locations – very disappointing

Great experience from true locals. The stories of townships and tribal traditions were amazing. Food was top notch.

Our evening food tasting experience could have been limited, due to a national holiday, when many of the food venues closed up early. In order to combat this problem, Bulelani went to several food stands and had many of our tastings ready when we met him. We enjoyed so many local dishes that we couldn’t finish all of them–Samosa, Koeksuster coconut donut, Steamed bread, Russian Gatsby sandwich (my favorite), Samp and beans, Braai lamb (delicious), Snoek fish, Rooibos tea, Biryani curry and lentil soup, and ended with ice cream. He walked us safely through the city at night. He included much cultural and historical information. Recommend this tour for interacting with the locals and their foods.

Dev is absolutely wonderful! Not only was there an abundance of food, there’s also great information about the history of the area and the locals. He took us places we would have never found where the food was incredible. Highly recommend!

We were in Cape Town for our honeymoon and, despite a bit of rainy weather and load shedding, we had an amazing time with Bhirdev. We ate food that we probably wouldn’t have tried otherwise, and it was all delicious! Bhirdev was a very knowledgeable guide and even helped us catch a ride afterwards. Would 100% recommend!
