Guide Jessica was amazing. An archeologist, her knowledge was only surpassed by her enthusiasm for history. She is very engaging and captivated the small group of 8. The meet up spot was easy to find as there were multiple tours gathering for multiple languages and the water fountain and shade tree eased the impact of the hot Rome sun at 11:00. We couldn’t secure tickets on our own and I was leery of Viator from the negative reviews online but my fears were unfounded. Communications could be improved in the booking process to provide confidence that there is going to be a ticket for you…I know I like to have an electronic ticket in my phone or a physical ticket in hand. When I arrived at the meet up spot there were 3 or 4 staff clearly identified as with City Walking Tours and they were able to confirm my reservation in their tablet. I had booked an earlier start time (9:40) but Diana had emailed me requesting to change the start time to 11:00 but wasn’t able to send me a new voucher. I agreed to accommodate the later start and I’m very glad I did since it turned out to be a fast better tour than I expected.

Our guide walked us all around the sites. We did not enter. Our guide nearly got into an altercation with another man while trying to cross area were told not to by soldiers setting up for Republic Day. Our guide yelled for us to cross as well and the other person was yelling at us not to cross. Very stressful for our first day in Rome. The company did respond quickly and did refund our money, however it doesn’t make up for a wasted day. I give them credit for offering a new tour, however we did not have time. I’m sure others have had a better experience. The guide did see very knowledgeable of the area but it definitely was not what I expected. I have it two stars because the company did respond and refund my money.

The tour group was a bit disorganized and had probably the worst area to meet up – next to a trash can and smelly area. The tour started 10 min late but did go over about 20 min. I would recommend if you can’t get tickets because the lines were insane. We didn’t have to wait in line and the colosseum is something you don’t want to miss if you are in Rome. The tour guide’s English was hard to understand but he tried. Overall I would do it again
