Mustafa our guide was amazing!! He was very knowledgeable. He even drew us a detailed map of Abu Simbel that told us what the inscriptions meant. The driver was very nice. He drove safely and got us to the temple before all other tourists got there. So we got photos with no one in them!

The actual temple & the mini souk outside, along with the perfumery which wasn’t part of our initial itinerary.
Be prepared for a bumpy ride though due to the roads!

The temples are quite simply overwhelming and well worth the journey. The arrangements to visit them smooth.

We had a beautiful day with our tour guide Mariam Luke ( representing EMO tour) . She is very professional, friendly and patient with us. We set up our Journey to Abu Simbel at 7AM. Everything is perfectly arranged. The confirmation from EMO tour were promptly and clearly. Mariam never rush us and gave a good introduction to Abu Simbel. She had given us enough time to ask questions and explained them very well. That is the first time that we all felt very relaxed and enjoyed! We wish that EMO tour should get more opportunities to guide tourists.

On time pickup at the dock location in a comfortable vehicle that accommodated the four of us in style.
We considered the main advantage of this private arrangement was the ability to select a later departure time than the ship’s arrangement and most other sharing options.
This enabled us to have a more relaxing schedule and also avoid the overcrowding at Abu Simbel associated with the very early departure times.

We are so glad to have had the opportunity to see Abu Simbel Temple, and would definitely recommend the tour overall. Guides are not allowed into the actual temple, but that was ok because we got the explanation right before going in, and our guide gave us a map that we could bring inside pointing out specific areas of interest. Our guide also took a lot of photos of us which was thoughtful of him. Lunch from a restaurant on the side of the road was good, and since it was a long drive we were glad to be able to eat in the car. The main reason for giving the tour 4 stars was that after we got back to Aswan we were taken to a spice shop which was not advertised as a part of the tour and felt like a way to get us to spend money on something we didn’t want or ask for. I wish we didn’t end the tour that way, because otherwise we had a nice day.

We had a 5am scheduled pickup from our hotel on Elephantine Island in Aswan (a short ferry ride from downtown). Email confirmation clearly stated that the guide will pick us up from the hotel. At 5:20am we received a text message from the tour company that the guide is waiting for us across the river. When I indicated that confirmation was the pickup was supposed to be from the hotel, I was told it was a mistake and they don’t pick up from the island. I requested that the guide send a private ferry since this was 1) their mistake, 2) there was no ferry at the time from elephantine Island. The tour operator agreed and said a private ferry will come pick us up in 5 minutes (around 5:35am). That was the last message I ever received from her. Waited until 6am, no ferry in sight. 6am is when the public ferry starts so we took that and met the tour guide and driver who strangely seemed annoyed at us. We get to Abu Simbel and the guide gives her 5-minute spiel on the site and left us with 45 minutes to tour on our own. She clearly had no interest in answering any questions and just wanted to rush back to Aswan.
Total trip time was 9 hours, even though the description clearly said 11-12 hours and that we’ll have 2-3 hours to tour Abu Simbel. This was why we booked a private tour to be begin with. All in all, a very disappointing experience with the tour company and the tour guide.

The guide was very poor at overall communication. When we met at the car, she explained very briefly about the day and the area, and quickly fell into sleep throughout the journey. When we got to Abu Simbel, she again explained very quickly what’s inside and said she will wait for us at the cafeteria. She seemed very eager to get to cafeteria, by rushing her explanations. She also asked whether we would like lunch locally or whether we want it when we are back at Aswan(which was 3 hours away and it was already 11am). So we said locally and it turns out she was taking the food away and told us we can eat in the car while driving back. The food was also very basic rice & grilled chicken and we were ripped off for USD20 per person. She was also shouting at us “we are ready!” – while we were waiting for the driver to come back after the temples, though the driver was nowhere to be seen yet. It was a terrible experience overall and very disappointing.

Very kind driver, arrived in time, spoke English, spacious and clean car, Egyptian driving mode a bit crazy for Europeans.

Excellent guide and super driver. Couldn’t have been better. Recommend Highly Guide Herba was very knowledgeable and arranged things so we saw the whole site with little effort. The included lunch was excellent – we asked for Egyptian food and we’re not disappointed.

Driving was long, 3 hours, but the Abu Simble’s grand ancient construction was awesome to see. Guide was enthusiastic in his explanation.

Great experience, Abu Simbel is what we liked the most about our trip to Egypt. Our driver Ahmed was extremely polite and efficient, very grateful for his great professionalism. On the other hand, the guide that we had, we did not like it too much, few explanations and in a hurry, it seemed that he was in a great hurry to take another group (I do not remember his name), but the visit to this incredible place is very worth it.

Very nice experience. Mariam was very professional and accommodating. She was very knowledgeable and thorough. She was able to answer all of our questions. Definitely worth the trip to Upper Egypt!

It’s a bit expensive but otherwise it was okay… I think you can easily find the same service for 1/5 of that price. The only reason we booked in advance was because of the uncertainty… The chauffeur was nice and he let us explore in peace. Don’t expect anything else, it’s just the price of a ride, 2 bottles of water and a soda.

I loved the four statues of the same pharaoh at four different ages.
The guide and the driver were both great.

  16. Molly_F

Abu Simbel was cool and Mohammed was very nice but I felt like we didn’t get as much information as we could have and it was also a long drive and pretty hot. It was also much more expensive than some of the much better experiences we had

Well worth the long drive – Abu Simbel is one of the most impressive sites I have visited, absolutely incredible. The history was brought to life by our lovely guide, Mariam Luka. Mariam was enthusiastic and seemed genuinely interested in her job and Abu Simbel, explaining the key people involved and the ambitious project to move the whole temple to higher ground to avoid flooding. Highly recommend this trip!

Tour is well organized. Samir explained us all the information during the transfer by car leaving us totally free once arrived at the temple. Lunch included was ok. Very good driver and comfortable car

Our tour guide (Dalia) and driver (Akmed Fathy) were both great. They were friendly, flexible, and fun. And they arrived on time, in an air-conditioned car. Dalia’s English was excellent and she was very knowledgeable about Abu Simbel and also answered our questions about current Egyptian culture/life. We declined Dalia’s offer to visit other places (e.g., a perfume factory/store, etc.) which didn’t seem to be a problem. The only surprise was that guides are not allowed insides the temples at Abu Simbel, so Dalia showed us pictures outside of what we would see and then waited for us. It was still worth it, but different from our experience at other temples in Egypt.

We didn’t go on the tour and didn’t get our money back. There was no communication prior to the tour other than the confirmation email back in February. We totally forgot we booked this tour (we take accountability for that) but there was no email or message to confirm pick up time and place. The tour only reached out via email an hour after our tour started and said the driver was waiting for us. At that point we were already somewhere else. We asked both Viator and the tour company for a partial refund since we didn’t use their gas or services but they said too bad. I will never use Viator or suggest this tour company again.

We chose the earliest tour to Abu Simbel. We got picked up at the hotel, and the guide was upset that the hotel agent was not helping him with finding us. He was pretty rude about verifying my name even after showing him the reservation multiple times and saying it was me and we were staying at the hotel.
He did provide great information about what we were going to see because guides cant go inside but when we arrived at Abu Simbel he wouldn’t give us a pick up time, we are two young solo female travelers, and when asked for a time to ensure time of when we were departing, he proceeded to be very disrespectful in saying he would only give us 30 mins then if we wanted a time so bad when all we wanted was an estimated average fair time so we knew when to start heading out and ensure proper pick up.
On the way back, the car was over heating, and we kept stopping , and they kept turning the car back on immediately, and the tour guide appeared to be pushing the driver to keep on going. I don’t know much about cars but i do know pushing a car thats over heating is not safe.
He later took us to a spice place and they tried to sell us spices that were very overpriced! when we didn’t buy anything the tour guide appeared to be upset and stated we weren’t going to find spices like their on the market etc… im sure he probably gets a commission with the attitude he showed.
